Surgery fund for Maarten: ACL reconstruction in Amsterdam

After gallstones with repeated infections, Maarten was cleared for ACL reconstruction, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections. My surgeon at Amsterdam Community Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $9,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $6,750 short. Doctors at Amsterdam Community Hospital told me gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without ACL reconstruction. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $9,750 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $6,750 goes: • Hospital stay (2 nights): $3,200 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,250 • Physiotherapy sessions: $700 • Travel and lodging for the family: $380 • Post-operative medication: $220 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
