Surgery fund for Lilian: a craniotomy in Badagry

After a torn ligament that needs reconstruction, Lilian was cleared for a craniotomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Badagry
In August I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at Saint Anne Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for December. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,400, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $1,200 short. Doctors at Saint Anne Hospital told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without a craniotomy. I work as a farm laborer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,400 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a farm laborer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,200 goes: • Hospital stay (2 nights): $390 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $70 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $610 • Physiotherapy sessions: $60 • Travel and lodging for the family: $70 Thank you for reading my story. - Lilian
