Khalid was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $690, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $550 short. my son has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $690 is more than we can find. While we wait, Khalid struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Khalid won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $550 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $90 • Travel and lodging for the family: $35 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $380 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $30 • Post-operative medication: $15 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
