Javier was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in February. The surgeon at Los Angeles General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $4,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $2,250 short.
my husband has been in and out of Los Angeles General Hospital since February. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $4,500 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Javier struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Javier won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
