Graciela was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in August. The surgeon at Oakland General Hospital recommended septoplasty, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $3,600 short. my mother has been in and out of Oakland General Hospital since August. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Graciela struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Graciela won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $3,600 goes: • Hospital stay (3 nights): $2,150 • Post-operative medication: $330 • Physiotherapy sessions: $650 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $470 If you're reading this, thank you.
