Surgery fund for Funmilayo: spinal decompression surgery in Lagos
A scheduled spinal decompression surgery in September is out of reach without help covering $500 of the cost.
🇳🇬 Lagos, Nigeria728 views
In June I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Lagos University Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $710, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $500 short.
Doctors at Lagos University Hospital told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. I work as a taxi driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $710 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a taxi driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $500 goes:
• Post-operative medication: $35
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $380
• Travel and lodging for the family: $25
• Physiotherapy sessions: $60
I hope life is good to you.

Sending strength, Funmilayo. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier!
