Favour was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in November. The surgeon at Asaba General Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for January. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $950 short. my daughter has been in and out of Asaba General Hospital since November. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Favour struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Favour won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $950 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $230 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $450 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $70 • Post-operative medication: $60 • Physiotherapy sessions: $85 • Travel and lodging for the family: $55 I hope life is good to you. - Kayode
