Doris was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in March. The surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $5,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $3,500 short. my daughter has been in and out of Saint Luke Hospital since March. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $5,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Doris struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Doris won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
