Dennis was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in April. The surgeon at Saint Joseph Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,750, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,300 short. my husband has been in and out of Saint Joseph Hospital since April. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Dennis struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Dennis won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,300 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $740 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $260 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $85 • Post-operative medication: $55 • Physiotherapy sessions: $90 • Travel and lodging for the family: $70 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
