In September I was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated. My surgeon at San Francisco General Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $8,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $5,250 short. Doctors at San Francisco General Hospital told me a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. I work as a school bus driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $8,750 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a school bus driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $5,250 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,900 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $1,300 • Travel and lodging for the family: $360 • Physiotherapy sessions: $690 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Camila

Sending good thoughts. Your post was clear and honest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
