Beatrix was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in July. The surgeon at Paarl Regional Medical Center recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,550, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,100 short.
my sister has been in and out of Paarl Regional Medical Center since July. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,550 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Beatrix struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Beatrix won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
