Adalynn was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections in July. The surgeon at Austin General Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,500, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $5,950 short. my sister has been in and out of Austin General Hospital since July. The doctors say gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Adalynn struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Adalynn won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $5,950 goes: • Post-operative medication: $340 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $1,750 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,300 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $560 Thank you so much.
