New York
In February I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee. My surgeon at New York General Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for May. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $7,000, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $4,250 short. Doctors at New York General Hospital told me osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $7,000 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $4,250 goes: • Post-operative medication: $155 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,800 • Physiotherapy sessions: $640 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $370 • Travel and lodging for the family: $285 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Abigail

Post-operative medication is $155 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Happy to explain more.
