Aarati was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in October. The surgeon at Bhaktapur University Hospital recommended septoplasty, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,150, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $700 short. my wife has been in and out of Bhaktapur University Hospital since October. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,150 is more than we can find. While we wait, Aarati struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Aarati won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
