Stop the eviction: 4 months of rent for Gabriel's family in Veracruz

After a sudden layoff at the restaurant, Gabriel fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $1,100. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by January, the family must leave. There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Gabriel has started working night deliveries, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $1,100 goes: • Late fees and court costs: $40 • Rent arrears (4 months): $880 • First month of rent as a buffer: $180 Glad we found this place. - Beatriz
