Stop the eviction: 3 months of rent for Ngozi's family in Badagry
A cut in working hours left Ngozi short on rent for 3 months; help us stay in our home.
🇳🇬 Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria1,199 views
When the textile factory closed in January, Ngozi fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Thursday a final eviction notice was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $550.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by March, the family must leave.
There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Ngozi has started working evenings as a cleaner, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $550 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $360
• Late fees and court costs: $40
• Utilities in arrears: $35
• First month of rent as a buffer: $115
With deep gratitude,
Zainab
