When the textile factory closed in April, Jannat fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $450. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by June, the family must leave. There are two young children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Jannat has started working night deliveries, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $450 goes: • Utilities in arrears: $20 • Rent arrears (3 months): $340 • First month of rent as a buffer: $90 Thank you so much. - Omar

  • sending love, Omar. I hope things turn around soon. We're a small family in Nairobi but we're thinking of you. All the best.

    • hope it all works out. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care.

      • Take care. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I'm in public service myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Thinking of New Delhi!
