Dignity in old age: caring for Fahad
Fahad, 88, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $550 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 88. After a stroke last May Fahad can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Fahad desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Fahad worked all of his life as a schoolteacher, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $550 goes:
• Part-time carer (six months): $330
• Medication and prescriptions: $110
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $45
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $65

Good luck, Shazia. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
