Stop the eviction: 3 months of rent for Alok's family in Udaipur
A divorce left Alok short on rent for 3 months; help us stay in our home.
🇮🇳 India804 views
Following a long illness in the family, Alok fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Monday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $200.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by February, the family must leave.
There are two young children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Alok has started working two part-time jobs, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $200 goes:
• Utilities in arrears: $25
• First month of rent as a buffer: $140
• Late fees and court costs: $35
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
