Start-up fund for Paul: reopening a sewing studio after a fire in the building

Paul has run a sewing studio for six years; a fire in the building destroyed the equipment, and $1,100 will put it back on its feet.

For six years I have run a sewing studio in Kingston. In October, a fire in the building took a cutting table and overlocker. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Saturday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 8 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go. Where the $1,100 goes: • Replacing a cutting table and overlocker: $690 • Initial stock: fabric: $140 • Shop repairs and licensing: $165 • Working capital for the first month: $105 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Updates from Paul

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 71% funded and I made the first payment toward working capital for the first month.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($340 in total) I made the first payment toward initial stock: fabric. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
