Istanbul
For fifteen years I have run a roadside café in Istanbul. In December, a storm that collapsed the roof took an espresso machine and grinder. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Monday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 8 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go. Where the $1,150 goes: • Replacing an espresso machine and grinder: $790 • Initial stock: coffee and pastries: $95 • Shop repairs and licensing: $110 • Working capital for the first month: $155 If you're reading this, thank you.

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($175 in total) I made the first payment toward replacing an espresso machine and grinder. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Update from Istanbul: I met with the supplier and confirmed the amounts. We're at 11% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Thinking of you and your family. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
