In February I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at the Mumbai Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in May. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 33, I worked as a nurse until February, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Mumbai Oncology Institute 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,100 goes: • Transport to the Mumbai Oncology Institute: $120 • Scans and lab work: $135 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $845 Glad we found this place.
