In June I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. My oncology team at Saket Cancer Centre has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 24, I worked as a primary school teacher until June, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Saket Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $210
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $70
• Transport to Saket Cancer Centre: $105
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,065
