Standing with Ruby: colon cancer treatment costs
Ruby is facing colon cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Ruby was diagnosed with colon cancer in March. The oncology team at San Francisco Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in May. She will be away from work for about 5 weeks.
Ruby is 28, worked as a bus conductor until March, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to San Francisco Cancer Centre 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $10,850 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,250
• Scans and lab work: $550
• Transport to San Francisco Cancer Centre: $1,050
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $580
• Household costs while unable to work: $2,420
