Standing with Ruan: cervical cancer treatment costs
Supporting Ruan through cervical cancer: medication, transport to Stellenbosch University Hospital, and living costs while He can't work.
Anywhere in the world823 views
In September I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My oncology team at Stellenbosch University Hospital has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in December. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 53, I worked as a tailor until September, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Stellenbosch University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $200
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,850
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $170
• Household costs while unable to work: $280
Thanks for being kind about this.

So sorry you're going through this, Ruan. Hope the doctors have good news. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it
Thinking of you and your family, Ruan. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. We're a small family in London but we're thinking of you. All the best.
Hope it all works out, Ruan. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Jalandhar this morning. Love from Jalandhar.
Thanks for sharing this, Ruan. Shared this with my family.
