In July I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. My oncology team at Toronto Regional Medical Center has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 41, I worked as a bank teller until July, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Toronto Regional Medical Center 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $11,300 goes: • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $620 • Transport to Toronto Regional Medical Center: $1,200 • Scans and lab work: $990 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $8,490 Ask me anything below before you decide.
