In September I was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer. My oncology team at Mangaluru Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in December. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 39, I worked as a bakery worker until September, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Mangaluru Cancer Centre 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $100
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100
• Transport to Mangaluru Cancer Centre: $150
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $100
