Standing with Mukasa: stomach cancer treatment costs
Mukasa is facing stomach cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.
🇰🇪 Kenya950 views
In May I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at Nairobi University Hospital has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in August. I was told to expect about 8 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 56, I worked as a bank teller until May, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Nairobi University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $250
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $820
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $80
I hope life is good to you.

Sending good thoughts. Gave what I could, wish it was more. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.
shared it with a few friends. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home
Rooting for you, Mukasa. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Take care
Best of luck, Mukasa. Shared this with my family. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
Hope things get better soon, Mukasa. Hope you get there. Love from Coyoacán.
