In June I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at Johannesburg Regional Medical Center has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 32, I worked as a primary school teacher until June, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Johannesburg Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $1,850 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $320
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,300
• Transport to Johannesburg Regional Medical Center: $230

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. scans and lab work comes first ($320) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Appreciate you taking the time.
