Standing with Mariana: thyroid cancer treatment costs
Mariana is facing thyroid cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Mariana was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in April. The oncology team at São Paulo Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in July. She will be away from work for about 4 weeks.
Mariana is 35, worked as a hairdresser until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to São Paulo Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,550 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,700
• Transport to São Paulo Regional Medical Center: $165
• Household costs while unable to work: $490
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $195
