Standing with Luís: cervical cancer treatment costs
Luís is facing cervical cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Luís was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July. The oncology team at Rio de Janeiro Regional Medical Center has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in September. He will be away from work for about 10 weeks.
Luís is 32, worked as a nurse until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Rio de Janeiro Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $3,350 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,800
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $180
• Household costs while unable to work: $370
