In July I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. My oncology team at the Eldoret Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 33, I worked as a hairdresser until July, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Eldoret Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,300 • Scans and lab work: $130 • Transport to the Eldoret Oncology Institute: $195 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $95 • Household costs while unable to work: $380 Ask me anything below before you decide.
