In July I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. My oncology team at the Kyoto Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 47, I worked as a primary school teacher until July, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Kyoto Oncology Institute 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $5,550 goes: • Scans and lab work: $1,300 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $370 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,950 • Transport to the Kyoto Oncology Institute: $930 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Kazuki
