Standing with Ivy: thyroid cancer treatment costs
Ivy is facing thyroid cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.
🇦🇺 Australia818 views
Ivy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in March. The oncology team at Brisbane Regional Medical Center has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in June. She will be away from work for about 8 weeks.
Ivy is 58, worked as a construction supervisor until March, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Brisbane Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $7,350 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,900
• Scans and lab work: $1,200
• Transport to Brisbane Regional Medical Center: $650
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $770
• Household costs while unable to work: $830
Thanks for reading all this.

best of luck, Samuel. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Blessings.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ivy!
Sure. The biggest one is chemotherapy and medication not covered, $3,900. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
Praying for you, Samuel. Looking forward to the next update. All the best.
Hope things get better soon, Samuel. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out.
