In July I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Manila Regional Medical Center has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 31, I worked as a bakery worker until July, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Manila Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,300
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $65
• Transport to Manila Regional Medical Center: $135
