Hazel was diagnosed with colon cancer in August. The oncology team at the San Diego Oncology Institute has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in October. She will be away from work for about 3 weeks.
Hazel is 34, worked as a cleaner at a hospital until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the San Diego Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $8,750 goes:
• Transport to the San Diego Oncology Institute: $420
• Scans and lab work: $1,750
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,000
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $580
