Gemma was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in July. The oncology team at the Manila Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in November. She will be away from work for about 3 weeks. Gemma is 41, worked as a primary school teacher until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Manila Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $650 goes: • Scans and lab work: $180 • Transport to the Manila Oncology Institute: $100 • Household costs while unable to work: $370 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Fernando

  1. Thank you all. We're at 11% now ($70). I'm honestly stunned. we've started the first stage.

  2. Update from Manila: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 3% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  • Hope things get better soon, Fernando. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double

    • Gave what I could, wish it was more. Wish I lived closer to Chandler so I could bring a meal.

      • Rooting for you. Hope you get there. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. God bless

So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. It's not much but it's yours!
