Franco was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in July. The oncology team at Lecce Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 10 weeks.
Franco is 42, worked as a bank teller until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Lecce Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $6,400 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,500
• Scans and lab work: $980
• Transport to Lecce Cancer Centre: $580
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $480
• Household costs while unable to work: $860
