In July I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at the Brescia Oncology Institute has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 48, I worked as a taxi driver until July, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Brescia Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $8,300 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,250
• Scans and lab work: $620
• Transport to the Brescia Oncology Institute: $630
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $430
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,370

What's already covered and what's the $8,300 for?
Chemotherapy and medication not covered is $5,250 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. I'll keep the page updated.
