Standing with Elena: multiple myeloma treatment costs
Elena is facing multiple myeloma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Elena was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in September. The oncology team at Bronx Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in January. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks.
Elena is 49, worked as a bus conductor until September, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Bronx Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $9,350 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,750
• Scans and lab work: $1,700
• Transport to Bronx Cancer Centre: $550
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $490
• Household costs while unable to work: $860
