In February I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at Moscow Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in June. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 49, I worked as a taxi driver until February, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Moscow Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $3,300 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,300
• Transport to Moscow Cancer Centre: $330
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $210
• Scans and lab work: $460
