Standing with David: stomach cancer treatment costs
David is facing stomach cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In January I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at the San Francisco Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in April. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 24, I worked as a primary school teacher until January, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the San Francisco Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $5,950 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,850
• Transport to the San Francisco Oncology Institute: $430
• Household costs while unable to work: $2,100
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $570
