In June I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. My oncology team at Guadalajara Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 42, I worked as a shop owner until June, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Guadalajara Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,050 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $590 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $165 • Transport to Guadalajara Cancer Centre: $295 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Carmen

Updates from Carmen

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($325 in total) the plan for nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • Hang in there, Carmen. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Syracuse
