In December I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncology team at San Diego University Hospital has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in April. I was told to expect about 8 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 36, I worked as a primary school teacher until December, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to San Diego University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $12,850 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,500
• Scans and lab work: $1,550
• Transport to San Diego University Hospital: $980
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $540
• Household costs while unable to work: $2,280

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Brooklyn.
Chemotherapy and medication not covered is $7,500 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks for looking so closely.
