Athumani is facing a rare sarcoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Athumani was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in April. The oncology team at the Nairobi Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in July. He will be away from work for about 4 weeks.
Athumani is 53, worked as a farmer until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Nairobi Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,300
• Scans and lab work: $160
• Transport to the Nairobi Oncology Institute: $155
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $150
• Household costs while unable to work: $235

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. chemotherapy and medication not covered comes first ($1,300) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid.
