Standing with Andrés: stage 3 ovarian cancer treatment costs

Andrés is facing stage 3 ovarian cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Aurora
In August I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. My oncology team at Aurora University Hospital has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 27, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Aurora University Hospital 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $8,650 goes: • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $390 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,250 • Household costs while unable to work: $2,010 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Updates from Andrés

  1. Thank you all. We're at 34% now ($2,943). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts.
