Standing with Akello: thyroid cancer treatment costs

Akello was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in May. The oncology team at Kasarani Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in August. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks. Akello is 49, worked as a taxi driver until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Kasarani Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
