In February I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My oncology team at Tangier Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in April. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 52, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until February, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Tangier Cancer Centre 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,500 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $740 • Scans and lab work: $310 • Transport to Tangier Cancer Centre: $130 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $110 • Household costs while unable to work: $210 Every share and every dollar helps.
