Spinal decompression surgery for Rashid: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled spinal decompression surgery in February is out of reach without help covering $1,050 of the cost.

In December I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Shubra Regional Medical Center recommended spinal decompression surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for February. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,400, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $1,050 short.
Doctors at Shubra Regional Medical Center told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. I work as a call-centre agent, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a call-centre agent have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $450
• Post-operative medication: $60
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $450
• Travel and lodging for the family: $35
I hope life is good to you.

Stay strong, Rashid. This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.
Thanks for sharing this, Rashid. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Shubra
