Spinal decompression surgery for Namukasa: covering what insurance won't
After severe cataracts in both eyes, Namukasa was cleared for spinal decompression surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Namukasa was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,000, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,000 short.
my mother has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Namukasa struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Namukasa won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $370
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $470
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55
• Post-operative medication: $20
• Physiotherapy sessions: $65
• Travel and lodging for the family: $20
